Syracuse Community Project
This project was completed as a collaborative capstone focused on reimagining a mixed-use site on Syracuse’s Northside in partnership with real clients and community members. Working as a group, we engaged directly with residents, many of whom are immigrants, vto better understand everyday needs, cultural values, and shared spaces that foster belonging.
The phased proposal transformed the site into a community-centered hub featuring a laundromat, bakery with bulk store and café, and three apartments, all guided by the design concept The Weave. Grounded in universal design and sustainable strategies, the project felt especially meaningful because it responded to real voices and real constraints, bridging academic design with lived experience.
SKILLS DEVELOPED:
• Advancing Revit proficiency through collaborative central-model workflows and coordinated construction drawing sets
• Translating community and client feedback into inclusive, culturally-responsive design solutions
• Phased design planning that balances short-term feasibility with long-term adaptability
• Developing professional coordination and communication skills through team-led collaboration and shared project ownership
